Waldon Rankine, born November 7, 1943, in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. He was the beloved son of Cephas and Emel Rankine.
On November 14, 1970, Waldon married Valerie Antonita Cole in Kingston, Jamaica. Together, they built a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience over 54 years of marriage, raising three children, and becoming proud grandparents to three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
After immigrating to the United States, Waldon settled in Brooklyn, New York. There, he worked tirelessly to pursue his dream of entrepreneurship. Later, the family relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, where Waldon brought his vision to life by founding Eat Right Caribbean Restaurant in the early 1990s. As one of the first Caribbean restaurants in Dekalb County, it became a community landmark and an inspiration for other Caribbean entrepreneurs.
Waldon’s impact extended far beyond his restaurant. He dedicated himself to uplifting his community by providing housing to families in need and supporting transient individuals. His words of wisdom and unwavering encouragement brought hope to all who crossed his path.
A true pillar of the community, Waldon was sought after by local activists and leaders for his insights and for fostering a space where the West Indian and American communities could connect. His humor, guidance, and compassionate spirit left an indelible mark on countless lives.
Waldon Rankine’s life was a testament to perseverance, generosity, and vision. His legacy will live on through his family and the many lives he touched.
